Learn through Korean proverbs (and Naver)

Sofie to Korea

All languages have proverbs that often originate from ancient times and provide an invaluable insight into the culture and mindset of the native speakers. The more proverbs you know in your native language as well as in others, the more you’ll be able to understand the nuances of the language and how the language is rooted in the culture and history. In Korean, such proverbs are usually divided into two categories. The first category is “real” proverbs called 속담 like we know from western languages such as “the early bird catches the worm”, and “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. The second category consists of what I would rather call Chinese-origin expressions. They are called 한자성어 or 사자성어 in Korean, roughly meaning Chinese expressions and four-character expressions, respectively.

I’ve discussed this in previous blog posts, but this time I’d like to go a step further…

Open your books

Sofie to Korea

I once had a brilliant lecturer who told us that “you don’t get smart from just leaving the books on your shelf – you have to actually read them”. Wise words indeed. Way too often I find myself buying books with the intention to read them, and then just letting them collect dust in my bookshelf before rediscovering them later on.

Often life can be just the same. There are so many things that we plan on doing and then put off thinking that there’s always time for that.

I’ve always enjoyed reading anything from novels to nonfiction. After a period of not reading anything but Korean textbooks, I recently started reading a lot more and I enjoy it so much. I usually read in the morning and in the evening before going to sleep. I find that it calms my mind and broadens my horizon at the same time…

How I Edit My Photos (Update)

Hello everyone!

I feel so bad, it’s been almost half a year since I have last posted a blog.  I remember telling you all that I would post more this year, but as you can see, I did not keep my word and I’m sorry! Nevertheless, I am here today to show my editing process and techniques that I use when I edit my photos for my Instagram, luen.xx. Although these are just a few ways I edit my photos, I am always testing out new ways to edit them. However, I decided to make this post to show you my editing process. If you are lazy and don’t exactly feel like using a number of apps to edit your photos, then you are reading the right post. I am super lazy when it comes to editing my photos; I only use one editing app and it is…

One of the guys..

When I was young tomboy, I always wanted to be 'one of the guys'

I actually never thought I would ever get that title

Today. Why today?

It seems that I'm finally one of them. I'm now 'one of the guys'…..

I just so happen to like one of them… (there's only 2 — 1 single and 1 taken)

but… I'm now friend zoned by the guy I like

Should've known this would happen

9: Color Love

What’s your favorite color?

Write a love letter or a poem to your favorite color. The catch? Do the entire thing without ever naming the color itself in the piece.

I smiled as a saw it zoom past me; that vibrant, bold, bright and shiny color that I feel such deep connection with. Whenever I’m feeling down it always seems to lift me up and make me smile:)

Although it was my first love’s favorite; I adapted it, owned it and made it more of a meaning to me than of just that. I don’t think of him anymore when looking at this color, though some may think of it as a manly color, but to me it’s enlightening and inspirational. It catches my eye whenever present and a smile slowed creeps up and spreads itself across my face to show that I am content.
